Terms of use.

Who we are
Wit is operated by Dmitry Leshchenko, an individual entrepreneur registered in Georgia. Using the app or this website means you agree to what follows.
The app
Wit is an iPhone app that shows you a word a day and keeps the ones you save. We license it to you for personal use; we do not sell you a copy of it.
Because Wit comes from the App Store, your use of the app is governed by Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which applies to every app downloaded there. These terms sit alongside it.
Free and Pro
Free gives you a word a day and a taste of every pack. The word of the day is free and stays free: paying opens depth, never the ritual.
Six limits sit on Free today. Each pack opens twenty of its words to you. Practice gives you two rounds a day. The widget arrives once a day, and the three faster rates in settings cannot be chosen, because they are Pro's. The widget's arrow opens Wit Pro rather than bringing another word. Frederick, the British voice, is Pro's, so on Free you hear James, except on British vs American, whose British words always play in Frederick's voice. And the Progress screen shows you the week you are in, holding the month grid and the curve behind Pro. All six are in the app as it ships; if we add another, it goes on this page first.
Pro opens every word in every pack, the faster widget rates, the widget's arrow, Frederick's British voice, Practice without the daily cap, and the whole of Progress.
There are three ways to buy it: a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription that begins with seven free days, and a one-time lifetime purchase that does not renew. All three are bought and billed through the App Store. No price appears on this page: it depends on the country your App Store account is in and it can change, so Wit's App Store listing is the one place it is ever current, and you are shown it again before you buy.
A subscription renews at the end of each period until you cancel it, and you cancel or manage it in your App Store settings or from Wit's own Settings. The free week is one per Apple Account, so if that account has had it before, the yearly plan is billed straight away. If you start the free week and do not cancel before it is up, it becomes a paid year at the price you were shown; if you have notifications on, Wit reminds you before it ends, usually the day before. If a renewal payment fails, the App Store keeps Pro open for up to 16 days while you sort your payment details out.
Family Sharing is off, so Pro belongs to the Apple Account that bought it and does not pass to the rest of a family group.
If Pro ends – you cancel it, or it is not renewed – Wit carries on as Free, with the word of the day where it always was.
Your words
The words you save are yours. We do not claim them, and we hold no copy of them: your collection lives on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud, which we cannot read.
What the app does send us is usage data – which parts of Wit you use, and which word an action such as a save or a share happened on – with no name and no account attached to it. The privacy policy sets out all of it.
The corpus
Definitions, nuance lines and examples are written for Wit. Share a card, quote a line, screenshot an entry. Do not scrape the corpus wholesale.
Fair use
Ordinary personal use is what Wit is for. Automated access, bulk copying and resale of the corpus are not.
Using this website
This site is here to be read, and we provide it as it is. What we publish on it is written for Wit in the same way the corpus is, and the two sections above apply to it too.
Who Wit is for
Wit is for people of thirteen or older, and for the higher minimum age instead if the country you are in sets one. Wit is not directed at children under 13. We do not check anyone's age, so this one is on you.
If something goes wrong
Wit is a word a day, and not advice of any kind. We keep the app and this site running as well as we can, and we cannot promise either is always available or free of mistakes.
Changes, and writing to us
If these terms change we say so on this page and date it. Continuing to use Wit after that means the new version applies. The privacy policy says who handles what on our behalf, and it is updated before anyone new starts, not after.
Questions about any of this go to the contact form, or to hello@yourwit.app.
